Celebrating fifteen years as one of Hungary’s leading techno institutions, Budapest collective Technokunst opens a new chapter with its debut label release, Split Series 01. True to the spirit of the events that inspired it, this first instalment gathers two artists whose work defines the deeper spectrum of contemporary techno.
Rrose and Luigi Tozzi are artists that bring distinct yet complementary sensibilities to the 12-inch. Rrose is known for meticulously sculpted sound on Eaux, Lucy’s Stroboscopic Artefacts, as well as Function’s Infrastructure New York, and continues their exploration of repetition and psychoacoustic texture. Luigi Tozzi, the Rome-based producer behind releases on Psyk’s Non Series, Hypnus, and Outis Music, offers his signature organic fluidity, where rhythm flows like tides and melody flickers like distant light.
Across four pieces with two originals and two reworks, the EP unfolds as a study in motion and restraint. The sound is hypnotic yet controlled, designed for extended dance floor immersion rather than instant gratification. Tozzi’s contribution titled “Insecta,” has an aquatic energy, dub-infused low-end, spiralling synths, and an almost tactile warmth that invites introspection. Rrose responds with “Elastic Flame,” which pulses with mechanical precision, layers of resonant tone forming an evolving, breathing structure.
As Split Series 01 progresses, distinctions blur, and the two worlds merge into a shared current of meditative propulsion. It’s a refined and confident debut for Technokunst Records, translating the collective’s deep-running curatorial ethos into pure sonic form comprising of serious techno that’s quietly transcendent.
