Portugal’s Robert Hoff was once known as Robert S (PT) and is a producer with a high pedigree having appeared with his new alias on the Soniculture agency and event brand, Exos’ Planet X imprint, and Moddullar’s INNSIGNN, as well as his own Robert Limited label project, which has been the main source of his latest music.
Returning for the first time with a release under the new moniker, Robert Hoff’s new release titled Testpilot lands on the longstanding Scottish label Sleaze Records ran by Hans Bouffmyhre, which has a back catalogue including contributions by leading artists such as Charlotte de Witte, Rebekah, Bas Mooy, Pfirter, Developer, and Jonas Kopp.
With four tracks “Testpilot I” is a thundering and gritty techno powerhouse that rarely loses its analogue drive. “Testpilot II” continues the electrified textures, this time using a stuttered kick drum for an abstract approach. The next track “Testpilot III” uses a two-step beat as its core, allowing more breathing room and additional sweeping pulses to create an intriguing and haunting sci-fi vibe. Closing with “Testpilot IIII” it switches things up by introducing an ambient work, taking a trip into a metallic, dystopian soundscape by exploring a stimulating cinematic theme.
Robert’s change in identity mirrors his growth as an artist as he experiments with a darker and machine lead sound aesthetic while aiming at a heavier and more brutal style of cerebral techno for hardcore fans of the genre.
