Russian DJ/Producer Unbalance is a purveyor of a certain classic Techno sound. Being a respected and highly regarded talent, his consistently quality releases with interesting ideas revolve around a club setting, yet invoke able artistry and self expression that must be heard.
> 01. Which artists and genres inspired you to start producing music?
I made my first steps in production in 2005 I think, at this moment there were many different genres in the front of my mind, so I just tried to make different electronic music, but somewhere around 2008 I focused my passion on Techno music which inspired me a lot, mostly from Germany and UK, such artists as James Ruskin, Surgeon, Luke Slater, Marcel Dettmann, Mike Dehnert and others who heavily contribute to the modern Techno scene in these countries.
> 02. What production hardware or software would you never give up?
It’s not a secret that I’m work with software from the beginning, I feel very comfortable with it. I love to create a lot of details and have some progression in my tracks and software gives me all I need for it.
> 03. Which track from your own back catalogue is a staple in your DJ/Live sets?
Well, in DJ sets I’m don’t usually use my music a lot, I want to share it with people in my live performances, but I think that it’s still track from the first release on my Unbalance imprint.
> 04. What aspect do you enjoy the most from working in music?
The happiness of creating something interesting and inspiring from nothing.
> 05. What would you change or improve about the music industry and/or club culture?
I can only add something to this culture with my music, that’s my only one desire. This industry is an independent organism and has its own laws and ways of developing, we only need to help this development with our music.
> 06. What’s your passion outside of making music?
I love cinema, travels and my family, rest of the time I dedicate to music.
> 07. Where has been your most enjoyable gig to date?
It’s easy – it was my first gig outside of Russia and it was live performance at Berghain 3 years ago. At the time I lived in Siberia and just could not believe that they wanted to book me. It was like a dream come true for a small child and it’s still my strongest emotion from a gig.
> 08. Which track by another artist has really caught your attention recently?
I’m big fan of Mark Forshaw “Raptures” from the first time I heard it in the summer and still playing it a lot, it’s a simple but magical and effective track for every moment of night.
Mark Forshaw - “Raptures” [Scenery Records] (2015)
> 09. Which artists do you keep a close eye on and rate highly for the future?
Definitely Antigone. This guy will be big man in industry I’m sure.
Recid from Ukraine is making some great tunes now and will be present on our first Monasterio release, his track is still my favourite from release.
I really like Induction from Netherlands, top quality Techno from a beginner.
> 10. What forthcoming projects or releases are we yet to see?
Just recently I released a long-awaited vinyl on legendary Solid Groove with remix from label boss Aubrey, I’m really happy about it.
Now I am focused on a few projects – My Unbalance and Rebalance labels and finally with Monasterio team we started record label with the same name which I’m managing now.
I also made some remixes for Rekord 61 and David Att which will be released soon on vinyl.
